The Anton community is mourning the loss of Anton Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Matthew Hoover.
Hoover, 38, was found unresponsive in his Anton home Saturday.
Anton ISD Superintendent John York issued a statement following the announcement of Coach Hoover’s passing.
“It is with great sadness that I share with you that earlier today, Saturday November 12, Coach Matthew Hoover was found unresponsive at his home here in Anton, stated York. “We will all feel the impact of his passing. Coach Hoover was a valued member of Anton ISD and of the Anton community. He will truly be missed.”
Anton ISD had crisis counseling on campus Monday morning to help support students and staff.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the Hoover family in light of the sudden loss. The page states Hoover’s passing was an unexpected loss as he leaves behind his wife and four daughter.
Known throughout the west Texas community as the six-man Bulldog coach, other small town communities are rallying around supporting the Anton family in their time of need.
Anyone planning on attending the Whitharral vs Klondike football game at the Trinity Christian football field Friday at 7:30 p.m., buckets will be passed around during halftime to aid in collecting donations for the Hoover family.
