Farmer’s Market Park receives grant through Parkhill

During the Levelland Main Street Board Meeting, the group was the recipient of a Parkhill Pro-Bono Grant, for $20,000.

Main Street Manager Tania Moody explained that the 20232024 Main Street Board has been fortunate to have such amazing support for a new addition to Downtown Levelland, the Farmer’s Market Park. The future home of the park will be located at the corner of Avenue G and 5th Street.

“It was a place where people would gather to try and sell produce and homemade wares,” said Moody. “Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough support for the endeavor and the lot, owned by the City of Levelland, became a place for overflow parking for events and the mural on the adjacent building, fell into disrepair.”

T-Mobile was the first donor to step up to the plate with a $50,000 grant to seed the project, along with funds raised from Sip and Swirl, the annual Main Street fundraiser, and money given by the Levelland Community Development Board in the amount of $45,000. However the roadblock has been “the design.”

“I’m not a architect or a landscape professional, “ said Moody. “While I have tons of ideas for the park, I don’t really know how to put them all together to make sure this best serves the needs and wants of our community and downtown.”

Moody, went on to apply for a Parkhill grant, which was generously awarded in the amount of $20,000. The pro-bono grant will be used to professionally design and assess the site and as an added bonus, Sam Moody, landscape architect for Parkhill will be working on the project.

Individuals might recognize the name as he is also Moody’s son. Sam Moody, graduate of Levelland ISD, South Plains College and Texas Tech University, is a full time landscape architect for Parkhill, who advised “mom” to apply.

“I couldn’t be more excited that we have a “hometown boy” designing our project, and the fact that he’s mine, makes it all the sweeter,” said Tania Moody.

Sam Moody attended the Main Street Board meeting on Thursday night to present the larger than life check and stand shoulder to shoulder with his mom, excited to tackle this project. This will be the first project Moody has worked on in Levelland, but he is no stranger to designing parks and landscaping and concrete work for educational facilities all over the South Plains.

The Main Street Board extended their sincerest gratitude to Parkhill for investing in the Levelland community and taking time to give back, in this way. The City of Levelland has had the pleasure of working with this firm for years and appreciates the opportunity to do so in yet another visionary way.

Levelland held its check presentation June 27th, on the site of its soon to be Farmer’s Market Park. Many citizens turned out along with local T-Mobile employees to celebrate this incredible investment. The Levelland Mayor Barbra Pinner welcomed the crowd, Tania Moody talked about the project and extended the Main Street Program’s gratitude for the gift and the trust given to parlay these funds into something extraordinary for the community.

Eddie Flores, regional manager talked about T-Mobiles investment in small towns and the partnership they hope will grow and thrive for years to come. A few of the smaller attendees, looking forward to a new park in Levelland, came with bikes in tow and added smiles to the bright pink event at 5th and Avenue G.
