Levelland Head Softball Coach Ryan Miller and Levelland ISD hosted their annual softball camp at the Loboette ballpark.
The event was a two-day camp from June 19-20 that lasted from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Hosting their annual softball camp, Coach Miller has continued to notice an increase of camp numbers and kids who are consistent returners.
“We had seniors who graduated come back and assist in running the camp drills and exercises,” said Coach Miller.
Coach Miller said the turnout for this years camp was really good and the kids continue to learn and be present to make the most of their experience.
“The good news is we have a bunch of new kids that are coming back to camp for the second year,” explained Coach Miller. “We’re able to overview things that we did and if you ask any camper that came last year the one thing that they will probably remember about anything is our, “surf and chickies” philosophy so it’s going pretty well so far.”
This will be Coach Miller’s third year with the Loboette’s as he led them to a 25-9 record, as they would reach number four in the Top Texas Rankings.
Although it was a heavy senior class, Coach Miller still has very high expectations on what he wants for the girls to achieve as he heads the program.
“Our expectations are always high and that’s what I always tell the girls. It’s hard to meet my expectations because I set them in such a high level, but once we meet those expectations we are going to move them up even further,” said Coach Miller. “Expectations for us are to show up and do what we do, stay in our game and not play anyone else’s”, Coach Miller acknowledged that the past season was great, but taking an early exit in the bidistrict round was not the groups desire.
“Our past season we went 25-9, which was a good season for us; unfortunately anything less than a state championship is going to be a little upsetting,” said Miller.
While Coach Miller has set some lofty goals for the team, he believes his group can definitely reach those. He plans to get farther and farther each year from where they got last season.
Coach Miller knows they can reach it if the athletes continue to work harder than they have before. He knows it’s not an easy task, but he likes the challenge and embraces that whoever they have to face they will have to go through them.
“Our goal is to always be a district champion and if you ask any other coach they will tell you the same thing, it’s everyone’s goal,” said Coach Miller. “We want to get past the bi-district round of the playoffs and start to get there in the third or fourth round of playoffs more consistently. No matter who we play, we have to do a better job than the year before.”
For the summer league games, the Loboettes have a record of 3-1, and plan to add more wins as they near the end of the league.
They will go to Sundown this week and finish off their summer league games here at Loboette stadium, June 27. Their first game will start at 5:30 p.m. and they will finish off their last game of the league at 8 p.m.
