South Plains College’s Creative Arts Department has opened registration for two classes that will give local, aspiring musicians ages 12 to 17 a chance to hone their skills this fall.
In the Fall 2026 Youth Live Ensemble, musicians of any instrument and skill level will study with SPC Creative Arts faculty members and use professional equipment. The class will cover how to play in a band and deepen students’ understanding of bass, drums, guitars, keyboards and vocals.
SPC’s new Songwriting and Music Composition class will immerse students in the art of songwriting by helping them gain a basic understanding of music and lyrical design. Students will develop a process for putting their creative expressions into song and will learn basic chart design.
Those interested in either class can register by Oct. 6 on the online SPC Marketplace and pay a single $150 fee with no additional sign-up costs for the Youth Live Ensemble and a single $100 fee for the Songwriting class.
Classes will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday from Oct. 6 to Nov. 30 in the Creative Arts Building on the Levelland campus. The youth ensemble will perform a closing concert during the last week of the class in the Tom T. Hall Production Studio.
