Dr. Morri Hartgraves, longtime resident of Levelland, is the recipient of the 2024-2025 Professing Excellence Award at Texas Tech University. The Professing Excellence Award recognizes Texas Tech professors for their influence on students’ learning and scholastic achievement. Students and colleagues on the Texas Tech Lubbock campus nominate and vote for faculty they feel have demonstrated outstanding course instruction and exemplary dedication to students.
The Professing Excellence Award is given to extraordinary Texas Tech faculty who go above and beyond, both inside and outside of the classroom. A selection committee of student and university leaders evaluate and rank the nominations submitted each year. These nominations are appraised for exceptional teaching, surpassing teaching expectations, and overall nomination quality.
Dr. Morri Hartgraves is a Professor in the Texas Tech Department of Biological Sciences. He is a member of the biomedical science research group. His research interests involve neurotransmitter receptors that mediate early gene expression and neurotransmitter signaling involving phosphoinositide responses that produce lipidderived second messenger pathways. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and was a visiting researcher in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Hartgraves teaches courses in Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Advanced Topics in Anatomy & Physiology at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Hartgraves created the first-ever course collaboration between TTU and the TTUHSC medical school. This Advanced Topics class is the first of its kind to allow Texas Tech undergraduate students entering the health professions to experience firsthand learning in the Institute of Anatomical Sciences’ medical cadaver labs. This innovative class is designed to give students a more practical approach to understanding human anatomy and physiology for their future medical careers.
