Chamber volunteer spotlight for Aug.

Continuing to dedicate her time, kind heart and love to the Levelland community, Barbra Pinner was nameed the August Volunteer Spotlight courtesy of the Levelland Chamber of Commerce.

Pinner has grown up around West Texas all her life, originally being from Odessa, Texas. She is married to her husband, Jerry Pinner and together they have two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Pinner’s professional career spanned 25 years as offfice manager for Whiteface Farmer. After she retired from Whiteface Farms she did not know what to do, so she decided to serve as the mayor of Levelland for nine years.

She was the first female mayor for Levelland and was almost the longest serving mayor before she decided to retire.

“I loved being mayor, I loved it. It was a great time,” said Pinner.

With no prior background in city government, Pinner did not let that stop her from running for mayor.

“I never was involved with the city council. Before I was elected I may have gone to two council meetings. So, it was a learning curve, but I loved being mayor,” said Pinner. “I loved being able to represent my town and get to meet the people involved.”

Her first thing as mayor was to rebuild the fire station in Levelland. From there, she has contributed to several projects of a similar fashion..

“Just being involved in all the other projects we’ve seen over the years has been amazing. It was an honor to be invited to the ribbon cutting of the new wastewater treatment plant that was never finalized when I was in office,” said Pinner.

Though she has retired, she continues to distribute her fondness of her town through her acts of service. Pinner is an active member of First Baptist Church and a long-standing member of Xi Theta Pi of Beta Sigma Phi.

She also helps organizations like the Marigolds and Keep Levelland Beautiful.

When asked why she keeps on giving back to Levelland she had nothing but gratitude for the community for giving her so much in return.

“The community has given a lot to our family. I want to give back and I can by volunteering,” said Pinner. “I just love being able to give back to our community and I want to give back as much as I can.”
