The Levelland Loboettes softball team played host to the San Angelo Lakeview Maidens for their district opener this past Tuesday night at Levelland High School, blowing them out 11-0 across five innings.
The Loboettes outhit Lakeview, 8-5, while also committing two less errors, in route to the dominant win.
“The girls came out determined and ready to play tonight,” Levelland Head Softball Coach Adrian Holland said. “Our defense kept us in the game long enough for our bats to catch up. The girls did a great job getting good swings on the ball, and it allowed us to score runs in the second and third inning with our biggest inning being the fourth inning. We were able to generate seven runs that inning. I’m extremely proud of the girls.”
Coach Holland would also go on to credit shortstop Marilyn Barrientes for her huge role in the offensive explosion, as she went 3/3 with a single, double, a home run and three runs-batted- in, and Jocelynn Arriaga for her phenomenal pitching performance, where she threw a full-game shutout and earned the win.
Arriaga held the Maidens to five hits, while only walking two batters and recording a strikeout.
Other standout performances at the plate included designated hitter Jill Lopez going 2/3 with two runs scored, second baseman Delaney Delgado going 1/3 with two runs scored and an RBI, left fielder Mia Sepulbeda going 1/3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, catcher Madi Seat going 1/1 with an RBI and a double, and center fielder Tiffany File with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored.
The win improves the Loboettes to 15-5 overall and 1-0 in district play this season, and following it, they’ll head on the road to face Lubbock Cooper Liberty over the weekend. Then they’ll return home on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. to face Synder.
