Morton ISD recently hired Coach Anthony Alfaro, a first-year teacher and coach who will assist in football, basketball and baseball.
Alfaro graduated from Texas Tech University in May 2026 after transferring from South Plains College. He is a Muleshoe native.
Alfaro says he always knew he wanted to be a coach.
“From a young age, I really wanted to become a coach,” Alfaro said. “Once I was in the classroom in student-teaching, I really enjoyed building connections with students and athletes as well.”
Alfaro's father was a girls basketball coach, which made Alfaro even more interested in coaching because he would accompany him to practices and games.
“One day they asked me if I would fill in for my dad, I was nervous, but I said yes,” Alfaro said. “I really enjoyed it. That was my earliest memory of knowing what I wanted to do, like eight years ago.”
Alfaro says his coaching philosophy is to just help athletes meet their fullest potential and encourage them to become a better people all the way around.
“I expect them to be respectful on and off the field. I want them to be inspiring to other individuals and represent the community in a good manner,” said Alfaro.
Alfaro says he is very excited to be a part of the Morton community, and the students and parents are close.
“At the end of the day, we’re just a big family, and you know families are important,” Alfaro said. “I am a family man and that's really the biggest connection.”
Alfaro is looking forward to making his mark on the Morton community during his first year and his big career goal is to become an athletic director one day.
“This is going be my first-year coaching and teaching, I'm really excited and nervous at the same time,” said Alfaro. “I’m just really looking forward to learning my way and reaching my potential, and hopefully one day I can become an athletic director.”
Alfaro says he fell in love with the Morton coaching staff and appreciates the chance he has been given to make a difference in studentathletes' lives.
“Morton is a good district and good school. We have great coaches; our head coach, Coach Bulmer, I really love him and I am thankful he gave me this opportunity, especially as a first-year coach. I am so forever grateful for him,” said Alfaro.
