Week one of the NFL kicked off last week and 10 former Red Raider players were on active rosters.
Five of them started for their respective NFL teams and seven players recorded a stat in week one.
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in his usually form, making crazy plays in their loss to the Chargers, going 24/39 on his passes for 258 yards and one touchdown while also rushing the ball six times for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks also put together a great effort, recording 14 tackles and a tackle for loss in the team’s loss to the Colts.
Terence Steele started at right tackle for the Dallas Cowboys and didn’t allow any sacks, only allowing two quarterback pressures and not committing a single penalty in the team’s loss to the Eagles.
Rounding out the group of veterans, Broderick Washington Jr had a batted pass and a quarterback pressure for the Baltimore Ravens in their loss to the Bills.
The final former Red Raider to start in week one of the NFL was Austin McNamara who made his professional debut, punting twice for 94 yards with a long of 55 yards and pinning one inside of the opponents 20-yard line.
For the Las Vegas Raiders, Tyree Wilson rotates in at the defensive end spot and in his limited action, he made his mark in a win against the Patriots, recording one sack, two quarterback hits and two solo tackles.
Another player that rotates in is Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at safety for the Arizona Cardinals, who had three tackles and two passes defended in their win against the Saints.
The final Red Raider to record a stat was Bengals rookie Tahj Brooks, who made a special teams tackle on the kickoff team in their win against the Browns.
Washington Commanders safety Tyler Owens and Las Vegas Raiders offensive guard Caleb Rogers may not have recorded stats, but they still suited up for their NFL teams in week one, which is a noteworthy accomplishment.
After a great start to the NFL season, the former Red Raiders will all look to further their impact in week two and they’ll have our local support as they represent Texas Tech at football’s highest level.
