Sheriff’s Office issues scam alert

The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone going by a residence on N. Hwy 385 claiming to be a code enforcement officer and requesting to do an inspection.The subject was described a black male, middle aged, bald, beard with grey hair and approximately 6’2.

LISD school board holds regular, public meetings

The Levelland ISD school board held its regular meeting on Nov. 19 as well as a public hearing for school accountability.The public hearing concerned a reports on the Levelland Middle School and South Elementary and solutions to be implemented for a low accountability report.

Texas homeschool numbers rising

As public schools struggle with accountability ratings, homeschool numbers have been rising in Texas with an estimated 750,000 students, or about 5.95% to 6.28% of K-12 students, based on U.S. Census data for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years – more than private and charter students.

Judges rule Texas cannot use new congressional map

A three-judge panel ruled that Texas cannot use its new congressional map for the 2026 election and must use the lines passed in 2021.The decision comes 10 days into the month-long period when candidates can sign up for the March primary. The filing deadline is Dec. 8.U.S.
