THECB Grant targets nursing shortage in Texas

Sam Houston State University’s School of Nursing School and four Houston- area hospitals have developed and are scaling up a unique and promising teaching model that could help ease the critical nursing shortage facing Texas.

SPC to host arts camp July 6-9

Kids ages 5 to 17 are invited to participate in South Plains College’s Explore the Arts Camp from July 6–9 on the Levelland campus.Hands-on activities will take place in different parts of the Creative Arts and Fine Arts Buildings.

The Hockley County Memorial Library announced this year’s Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story”.The program encourages children and adults alike to avoid summer boredom with a good book.Registration begins Monday June 1 .

 LHS Theater students performed “The Insanity of Mary Girard” by Lanie Robertson this past week. Students portray a brilliant young woman with a love for music and poetry, who suddenly became withdrawn, along with ghosts that help reveal secrets.

Third zoning ordinance meeting held

The third zoning ordinance public meeting was held on Monday.Zoning regulates land use, promotes orderly community growth, protects public health and safety, and helps to maintain property values. It helps to organize community development, helps to prevent land use conflicts.

Wildfires break out across Panhandle

This past weekend, firefighters were battling wildfires that broke out across the Texas Panhandle, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, including one that burned an estimated 14,000 acres and forced the evacuation of around 350 homes.

Two-year anniversary of devastating windstorm

It has been two years since, since 100 to 120 mph straight-line winds swept through the city of Levelland, leaving behind extensive damage to homes and businesses and injuring eight people.

A nationwide cyberattack affected thousands of U.S. schools and universities. The attack shut down a widely used Canvas platform, preventing students from taking finals and accessing coursework.Canvas has more than 30 million active users globally, with more than 8,000 institutions.
