26th annual SPC Scholarship Gala raises $195,185 for scholarships

South Plains College’s 26th annual Scholarship Gala on Feb. 23 brought in $195,185 for student scholarships. Hosted by City Bank, the Gala was well-attended by generous supporters of the College and community members whose contributions continue to benefit SPC students’ lives.

CADDO POTTERY- LHS Art Teacher Steven Suarez shared that his art students attended LHUCA to see resident Artist Chase Gaines. Mr. Gaines is a Native American from the Caddo Tribe, and gave a lesson in traditional Caddo Pottery.

Landowners who have experienced Panhandle wildfire losses to agricultural infrastructure or livestock are advised to properly document losses in preparation for filing insurance claims or qualifying for federal assistance.

First responders continue battle against Panhandle fires

Now the largest wildfire in Texas history, the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Hutchinson County has burned roughly 1.1 million acres across Texas and Oklahoma. As of Tuesday morning, firefighters had contained 37% of the fire, according to Texas Forest Service officials.
LENDING A HELPING HAND - The Smyer Volunteer Fire Department sent a relief unit this past Thursday to Stennett to help with the Stennett Volunteer Fire Department as they had been roughly operating for 80 hours straight. The Smyer Volunteer Fire Department sent a crew north to the City of Stennett Thursday to aid their fire personnel as fire threats continue in the Panhandle area.

The Levelland City Council held their second and final reading regarding Ordinance 1077 Storage of Agricultural Commodities, during Monday’s regular meeting. Public comment was held to begin the meeting with Curtis McGill from Penny Newman in attendance to offer a public statement.
