As I take my early morning walks, I am impressed by the vivid colors that Fall displays, overshadowing the best efforts of other seasons. Magnificent red oaks are resplendent in scarlet, orange and rust, while pear trees show off their deep reds, oranges and yellows.

Texas claims first Thanksgiving celebration

Most history classes teach that the first Thanksgiving took place at Plymouth Colony in Virginia in 1961. However, the accuracy of that story is debatable, particularly since the Library of Congress notes a similar ceremony held decades earlier – in Texas.

Christmas on the Square set for Dec. 4

The Levelland Main Street Program, Levelland Marigolds and SPC Student Relations announced the return of “Unwrapped: Festival of Lights – Christmas on the Square” holiday celebration set for Dec. 4.The event will begin at 6 p.m. at South Plains College where Dr. Robin Statterwhite, Santa and Mrs.

Levelland Fire Dept. Report

Nov. 11Fire Department Engine 8 was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the 200 block of W. Hwy 114. Levelland EMS was also dispatched. Upon arrival, patient involved with mva was self-extricated and ambulatory and was with EMS personnel.

Atmos toy drive underway

Atmos Energy will be holding a toy drive through Dec. 10.Donations of new, unopened toys are being gathered for youth ages 0 to 17 years old.The drop-off location is Atmos Energy at 1415 E. Hwy 114 behind Levelland Chevrolet and the Car Wash. Drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
