Lobos suffer double OT loss to Perryton Rangers

The Levelland Lobos hosted the Perryton Rangers this past Friday for the team’s district matchup where the Lobos lost in double overtime to the Rangers.

The Lobos were the first team on the board in the first quarter after Ethan Salazar was able to hit a 26-yard pass to Gage Potter to make the score 7-0 after a made PAT from Levelland.

The Levelland offense had the ball right back after the defense was able to get an interception from Noah Tienda. Although it was a great momentum boost the Levelland offense had to punt it away after just three plays in their drive.

Perryton answered back with a scoring drive of their own right after with a 17-yard passing touchdown to make the score 7-6 after the Rangers missed on their two-point conversion.

The Lobos offense got right back to work with a huge passing play, this time Salazar to Eryk Jones from 67-yards out to extend the Levelland lead 14-6.

In the second quarter of the game Levelland was able to extend their lead after another Salazar to Jones connection, this time from 18-yards out to make the score 21-6.

The Rangers were able to answer back before the halftime break by punching the ball in the endzone from two-yards out to make the score 21-14, Levelland leading into the halftime break.

Coming out of the halftime break the Lobos was the first team on the board in the second half after a big Ricky Rodriguez rushing touchdown from 35yards out to give Levelland the big 28-14 lead over Perryton.

The Rangers weren’t giving up easy though as they were able to score towards the end of the third quarter with a nine-yard pass to make the score 28-21.

Although Levelland got back on offense they struggled once more as they threw another interception to give Perryton a chance towards the end of the game.

The Rangers were able to take full advantage of the turnover as they scored on an 11-yard pass to tie the game up at 28-28 and make the game go into overtime.

The first drive by the Levelland offense was capped off by a Salazar rushing touchdown from one-yard out to give Levelland the lead 35-28.

Perryton was able to respond with another score of their own from a three-yard run to tie the game 35-35.

In the second overtime, Perryton had no trouble putting the ball in the endzone again as they took the first lead of the night 43-35 after their made twopoint conversion. Although it was a hardfought game Levelland wasn’t able to keep it going on offense as they took all four plays which ended in a turnover on downs to give the Rangers the close 43-35, win over Levelland.

Levelland’s passing game did well with Salazar passing for 198 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Leading the Lobos in rushing was Rodriguez as he had 10 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown. Noah Martin had another 14 carries for 91 yards, Salazar had two carries for 18 yards and Jake Potter had two carries for five yards.

The receiving leader on the Lobos was Jones with five catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Gage Potter added another three catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns, Kysen Niblett had three catches for 22 yards, Bryson Golightly had two catches for 27 yard, Noah Martin had one catch for 11 yards and Rodriguez had one catch for nine yards.

The Levelland Lobos fall to 4-4 on the season as they go down to 0-2 in district play. The Lobos will get ready to take on the Borger Bulldogs this Friday on the road at 7 p.m. Borger is coming off of a 59-14, loss to Estacado in Lubbock.
