The Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) held their annual summer clinic on July 16-18 at the Arlington Hilton Hotel and E-Sports Arena. During the clinic, Kaytlin Clausen from Sundown High School was honored as part of the TGCA cross country all-star team.
Being selected to the TGCA all-star team is a highly prestigious high school sports honor. It recognizes the top incoming senior female athletes from across the state of Texas in sports sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League (UIL).
Clausen was one of six athletes out of 20 to be selected from 2A schools.
The TGCA cross country all-stars are selected annually by the TGCA cross country committee from a pool of incoming senior athletes nominated by their respective head coaches. To be eligible for this honor, an athlete's coach must be a current TGCA member in good standing.
The selection committee ultimately names a total of 40 elite runners to the All-Star roster, recognizing the top 20 student athletes from conferences 1A-4A and the top 20 from conferences 5A6A.
While these crosscountry standouts do not participate in a summer exhibition match like athletes in other sports, they are officially commemorated for their high school achievements with personalized certificates and letter jacket patches.
Clausen also is a part of the Sundown basketball, cheer and track team as well, and participates in academic UIL on the math and calculator team and plays the coronet for the Pride of the Oil Patch band and is a member of the National Honor Society.
