The Whitharral Lady Panthers hosted the Anton Lady Dogs this past Tuesday night for district play where they won 6624, to win the district championship going undefeated in district play.
The first quarter started off great for the Lady Panthers as they held Anton scoreless in the first quarter while they scored 14 points, taking a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter.
For the second quarter of action Whitharral outscored Anton once more, this time 19-13, extending their lead and making the score 35-13.
Leading the Lady Panthers in scoring at the halftime break was Paige Smith with 19 points, 15 of them in the second quarter alone.
For the Anton Lady Dogs their leading scorer at the half was Naliyah Cooper with five points, all of them in the second quarter.
Out of the break, the Lady Panthers defense was still fighting hard as the Anton Lady Dogs weren’t able to get a clean look at the basket only getting two points, both from free-throws while the Lady Panthers scored another 17 points, making the score 52-15, heading into the final quarter of play.
For the fourth quarter of the game Whitharral put the finishing touches on the game as they outscored the Lady Dogs one last time, this time 16-9, to take the district win and the district Championship.
Leading the Lady Panthers in scoring was Smith with 36 points on the night. Rylee Kristinek had another 13 points, Sheridan Neal had seven, Madi Chavez had four and three Lady Panthers in Elizabeth Reyna, Trinity Coronado and Valeria Frias all finished with two points a piece.
For the Anton Lady Dogs the leading scorers on the night were both Miliana Castillo and Naliyah Cooper with even points a piece. Aspyn Cooper had six points and both Liberty Peek and Alisiah Alafa finished with two points a piece in the team’s loss.
The Whitharral Lady Panthers progress to 22-7 on the season while finishing district play with a perfect 10-0 record. The Lady Panthers first round of playoff is against the Klondike Lady Cougars this Monday at Tahoka at 7:30 p.m.
For the Anton Lady Dogs they finish off their season with a record of 19-9 and 7-3 in district play, sitting in second place of the district. The Lady Dogs first round of playoffs is against the Sands Lady Mustangs this Friday in Tahoka as well at 6 p.m.
