The #7 ranked Ropes Eagles squared off against the McCamey Badgers in the Bi-District Round of the 2A Division 1 boys basketball playoffs this past Monday at Andrews High School, and the Eagles destroyed them, 72-28, to win the Bi-District Championship.
Ropes led 22-6 after the first quarter and 45-12 at halftime, and that trend of domination continued throughout the entirety of the game in route to the 44-point victory. “I thought we really got after them defensively and were able to speed them up,” Eagles Head Basketball Coach Cameron Copley said. “Offensively, we moved the ball well and established the paint early. I was super proud of our kids’ preparation and execution.”
Scorers for the Eagles in the win included Cutter Stumbo with 21 points behind five three-pointers made and 2/2 free throws made, Kade Franklin with 13 points behind ¾ free throws made, Cason Kucel and Malikai Mendez both with nine points, Kaden Riker with eight points, Mike Williams and Branson Simental both with four points, and Kolter Dockery and Bryce Hiler both with two points.
Following the Bi-District Championship win, the Eagles improve to 25-3 overall and advance to the Area Round of the playoffs.
Coach Copley noted that moving forward his guys will continue to clean up the little details on defense, and on offense they will keep looking for the best shot possible on each possession.
They’ll get the opportunity to put that into practice over the weekend against the Forsan Buffaloes at Lamesa High School with the Area Championship on the line. Forsan is 26-5 overall, entering the game on a 13-game win streak and as the undefeated 2A District 7 Champions.
