Maidens crush Lubbock Titans, 23-8

The Morton Maidens softball team played host to the Lubbock Titans this past Saturday and earned a 23-8 blowout victory.

The Maidens came out strong, outscoring them 7-2 in the first inning, a lead they’d strengthen by outscoring them 14-0 in the second through fourth innings.

The Lubbock Titans would respond by winning the fifth, 6-2, but to no avail.

Morton recorded 11 hits and 12 walks while committing zero errors, and the Lubbock Titans recorded nine hits and six walks, also committing zero errors.

At the plate, Maidens standouts included shortstop Audrie Garcia going 4/4 with three runs-batted-in, six stolen bases, four runs scored and a double, second baseman Aubree Ramon going 2/4 with four runs scored, four stolen bases and two walks, Natalie Ramirez going 1/1 with seven stolen bases, four runs scored, three RBIs and two walks, catcher Maya Huckabee with six stolen bases, four runs scored, three walks and an RBI, and left fielder Angelica Rubio going 1/1 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.

On the mound, the Maidens trio of Ramirez, Garcia and Huckabee split the workload. Garcia pitched 3.2 innings and struck out 10 batters while only surrendering zero earned runs on four hits, while Ramirez and Huckabee covered the remaining outs.

“We struggled early to throw strikes. The Titans took advantage of that,” Morton Head Softball Coach Martin Adams said. “Audrie Garcia came in and pitched a heck of a game. She also doubled down by having a great hitting performance. Overall, our girls played well and were disciplined at the plate. It was a great win and an exciting game to end the week, heading into district play.”

The win improves the Maidens to 3-8 overall and concludes their non-district schedule this season.

The Maidens will travel to face Post early in the week before heading to Seagraves on Saturday at 11 a.m. for another matchup.
