Ellis finishes runner-up at District

The Levelland High School Tennis PACK competed at the Varsity 4A District 4 Tennis Tournament this past Monday and Tuesday at the Snyder Tennis Courts, resulting in several hard-fought results which produced a Regional Qualifier for Levelland.

Every single team that the PACK had compete at least made it to the quarterfinals, but some prospered even further as several players competed in medal matches.

Levelland’s Nathan Ellis finished as the District Runner Up in the Boys Singles, earning the opportunity to compete at the Regional Meet at Texas Tech on April 20-21.

“Nathan is the kind of player every coach dreams of: he works hard, never backs down, is coachable, never satisfied, always hungry, is a leader, and is humble,” Levelland Head Tennis Coach Jeffrey Braziel said. “One of his goals this year was to get back to regionals, where he came up just short of going to state last year. I feel like in his mind, there is a little bit of unfinished business there. He has come a long way this year to take another run at it, and I know he is going to leave everything out on the court just like he has since day one. I am excited for April 20-21 to get here, to watch him go out on that court and battle against some of the top players in the state of Texas.”

And while they won’t be joining Ellis at Regionals, Reese Payton, Daisy Perez and Diego Franco all put together good performances at the District Meet too.

Payton finished fourth place in the Boys Singles, and Perez and Franco finished fourth place in the Mixed Doubles.

For everyone but Ellis, that marks the conclusion of the varsity PACK’s spring season. Coach Braziel noted his appreciation of each athlete’s hard work and dedication for the program, saying “they gave us everything they had.”
