2A District 5 Girls Basketball All-District selections announced

With the conclusion of postseason play for all the 2A District 5 girl’s basketball teams, the 2A District 5 Girls Basketball All-District Selections have been announced.

Out of 22 possible selections, the Whiteface Lady Lopes received seven honors, the Ropes Lady Eagles and Smyer Lady Cats both received four, the Sundown Roughettes received three and the Morton Maidens received one.

Whiteface’s senior guard Emily Blankenship was named the 2A District 5 Most Valuable Player, while sophomore guard Kambry Sanders was named Offensive Player of the Year, junior guard Lainey Sanders was named Defensive Player of the Year, Head Coach Jason Blankenship and staff were named Coach of the Year, Keyarah Castaneda and Abi Soliz were both named to the All-District team, and Gracyn Kauffman was named to the All-District Utility team.

Ropes’ freshman center Zailyn Wylie was named Newcomer of the Year, while sophomore guard Brooklyn Hogg and sophomore forward Rylie Lester were both named to the All-District team, and junior center Annabelle Falls was named to the All-District Utility team.

Smyer’s sophomore guard Ellie Nelson, senior guard Jada Hernandez and senior forward Rylee Riedel were all selected to the All-District team, while senior center Kaia Brandon was selected to the All-District utility team.

Sundown’s senior guard Camry Jourden and freshman center Kelbie Powell were selected to the All-District team, while junior forward Kyndal Taggart was selected to the All-District Utility team.

And Morton’s senior guard Haylee Toscano was named to the All-District Utility team.
