Coming off its bye week, Anton returned to action with another offensive performance while showing improvement defensively in a 50-22 win over Springlake- Earth.
The Bulldogs remain undefeated at 3-0, putting together 383 total yards while scoring seven touchdowns. Isaiah Alafa led the ground attack with 225 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, while shooter Campos added 39 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Campos also completed 5 of 9 passes for 119 yards, connecting with Cash Satterfield and Alafa for scores.
Defensively, the Bulldogs showed progress in an area the team emphasized during their week off.
Being more disciplined with eyes on defense was the coaching point for Anton’s head coach, Tell Rutledge, that revealed itself during the game as the ‘Dogs finished with two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
“Just having that eye discipline, reading our keys,” Rutledge said. “React quicker at the snap of the ball and do our jobs filling our run alleys.”
Kaden Starns led Anton with 12 tackles, followed by Xavi Avalos with 10 tackles. Griffin Duncan and Tiny Juarez each recorded an interception, while Cash Satterfield added a forced fumble and recovery.
The Bulldogs held Springlake-Earth to 22 points, six fewer points than they allowed in either of their previous two games, when they allowed 28 points in each matchup.
The Dawson Eagles are the next opponent the Bulldogs will face on the road, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25.
