Indians battle in loss to Seagraves

The Morton Indians traveled on the road to face the Seagraves Eagles for their district baseball opener this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Indians losing 14-13 across seven innings.

Morton jumped to an early 7-3 after two innings, then Seagraves would outscore 8-6 in the third through fifth innings, and 3-0 in the final two frames to ultimately hand the Indians the loss.

The closely contested matchup reflected in the team statistics as the Indians won the errors column 1-5 and the Eagles won the hits columns 13-10, and the two teams tied in walks with 13 a piece. Standouts for Morton at the plate included center fielder Jesus Agurrie going 2/4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored, catcher Jaeden Alvarado going 1/3 with three runs-batted-in, two walks, two runs scored and a triple, third baseman Britton Boggs going 2/4 with an RBI, a triple, a walk and a run scored, right fielder Eder Vasquez going 2/3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored, and EJ Rivas going ¼ with three stolen bases, an RBI, a walk and a run scored.

On the mound, Rivas pitched three innings and struck out two batters, followed by Alvarado who pitched three innings and struck out four batters, and Boggs recorded an out.

"We showed some growth in a late loss last night. Not the ideal start for district play, but we are getting better every day," Morton Head Baseball Coach Jared Thomas said. 

The loss drops the Indi ans to 0-8 overall and 0-1 in district play. They'll return to action over the weekend against Seagraves again be- fore hosting Sundown on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
