Loboettes battle in 9-7 loss to Big Spring

The Levelland Loboettes traveled on the road for a district softball matchup against the Big Spring Lady Steers this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Loboettes losing a close one, 9-7, across seven innings.

Big Spring outscored Levelland 5-3 in the second inning and 2-1 in the third inning, and Levelland outscored them 3-2 in the fifth inning.

In the team statistics, the Lady Steers bested the Loboettes 7-2 in walks and 2-4 in errors committed, and the two teams tied at eight hits apiece.

Standouts at the plate for the Loboettes included third baseman Angelina Gonzales going 2/3 with three runsbatted-in, a run scored and a home run, shortstop Madilyn Barrientes going 1/3 with three RBI’s, a run scored, a home run and a walk, left fielder Mia Sepulbeda going ¼ with two runs scored and a stolen base, first baseman Adrianna Castellano going 2/4 with a run scored and a stolen base, right fielder Carleigh Delgado going 1/3, catcher Madi Seat going ¼, and second baseman Delaney Delgado and Mari Reyna both scored a run.

On the mound for Levelland, Jocelynn Arriaga pitched the full game, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits and seven walks while striking out a batter.

The loss drops the Loboettes to 21-9 overall and 7-4 in district play, which puts them third in the 4A District 5 softball standings.

“The Loboettes played a very hard-fought game tonight. Both teams came ready to play, but we just did not get the big hit when we needed it to get over the hump,” Levelland Head Softball Coach Adrian Holland said.

The Loboettes play their final district and regular season matchup against Lubbock Estacado over the weekend. The matchup is Levelland’s Senior Night as well.

Regardless of the result in that one, the Loboettes have clinched the third district spot and a playoff berth.
