Lobos beats Lake View, 6-0

The Levelland Lobos traveled on the road for a district baseball matchup against the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs this past Thursday night, resulting in the Lobos earning a 6-0 win across seven innings.

The Lobos would score a run in the third inning and then five runs in the sixth inning to earn the win. In the team stats, Levelland would best Lake View 5-2 in hits, and the two teams tied 3-3 in walks and 1-1 in errors committed.

On the mound for the Lobos, Jake Potter pitched a full-game shutout, holding Lake View to two hits and three walks while striking out six batters. Potter would be ultra efficient in the outing, throwing 64% of his pitches for strikes.

Potter was backed with good run support, which was powered by several great efforts with the bat, including Potter himself going 1/3 with two runs-batted-in and a double.

Levelland’s other standouts at the plate included second baseman Javier Ruiz going 2/2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored, left fielder Kai Martinez with an RBI, center fielder Jeron Salinas going ¼ with a run scored, right fielder Boston Winfield going 1/3 with a run scored, shortstop Abram Arteaga with two stolen bases, a walk and a run scored, and RJ Mireles with a run scored.

“I thought the boys were clicking on all cylinders,” Levelland Head Baseball Coach Chris Portwood said. “Their hard work and belief in themselves, each other and the program showed up. There is no doubt if they continue to work hard, be professionals and love the guys next to them then we can play into May. I love this group and the families that make up our baseball community. It’s a great time to be a Lobo.”

The win improves the Lobos to 11-13 overall and 3-4 in district play, which ties them for fourth in the 4A District 5 baseball standings.

They’ll return to action early in the week against Snyder before hosting Lubbock Estacado at the Lobo Diamond on Friday at 7 p.m.
