The Sundown High School tennis program competed at the South Plains College Tennis Invitational this past Monday, resulting in several noteworthy finishes for the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams.
In the Varsity boy’s singles, Luis Posadas placed fifth in the Orange Bracket and Lincoln Keesler placed sixth in the Green Bracket.
In the Varsity boy’s doubles, the duo of Corey Pormanes and Dave Pormanes placed fourth, and the duo of Russell Salazar and EJ Jacinto placed eighth.
In the Varsity mixed doubles, the duo of Joclyn Baeza and Ryder Stanley placed fourth, and in the Junior Varsity girl’s doubles, Carrigan Dietz and Izzy Hoover won the Tournament Championship.
“We had a great day of tennis,” Sundown Head Tennis Coach Sara Goodman said. “We have a lot of freshmen this year, but they are doing well. They will have a great future in our program. My upper classmen are getting more consistent every day. Looking forward to district in a few weeks.”
Sundown tennis has two more regular season competitions before district on March 31 and April 2, with their next being the Abernathy Tournament at Plainview. The matches are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
