The Sundown High School tennis program hosted the Roughneck Invitational this past Monday and came away from the competition with several good results.
Standouts for the Sundown varsity squad included Jocyln Baeza and Ryder Stanley finishing third place in the Mixed Doubles, Lincoln Keesler finishing fourth place in the Boys Singles, and Corey Pormanes and Dave Pormanes winning the Boys Doubles Consolation Championship.
Standouts for the Sundown junior varsity squad included Carrigan Dietz and Izzy Hoover with a secondplace finish in the Girls Doubles, and Christian Quintana and Russell Salazar winning the Boys Doubles Consolation Championship.
Following the competition, Sundown Head Tennis Coach Sara Goodman shared her thoughts. “It was definitely early in the season, but we played well. Looking forward to a really great season,” Coach Goodman said. “We have a lot to work on from now until district, but nothing the kids aren’t ready to tackle.”
Sundown tennis will look to keep improving match by match, and they’ll get their next chance on Monday at South Plains College at 8 a.m. That marks the first of three non-district competitions remaining before district play.
