GAINESVILLE, Flordia — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out the indoor season with a third and sixthplace finish, respectively, Saturday at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships at the Alachua County Events Center at Celebration Pointe.
Indian Hills won the men’s title with 94 points, while New Mexico Junior College was second with 84 points. Barton County and Iowa Western tied for first for the women’s team title with 106 points, with New Mexico, Cloud County, and Western Texas rounding out the top five.
Sophomore Harry Crosby earned All-American honors in the heptathlon, placing second nationally with a final point total of 5270 points. In the men’s shot put, freshman Shamar Reid turned in an eighth-place national finish with his mark of 52 5.25 . In the men’s triple jump, Mouhameth Fall posted a third-place national finish with a mark of 49 10 , while sophomore Mitchell Allen was sixth with a mark of 49 4.25 .
In the men’s long jump, freshman Andrew Stone went 24 3 , good enough for third overall. Sophomore Django Segovia posted a second-place finish in the men’s pole vault, clearing the bar at 15 8.5 . The Texans would then take third in the men’s distance medley relay, clocking a final time of 9:46.90.
In the men’s 4×800 relay, Stefan Camejo, Matthew Gordon, Ainsley Campbell, and Hamdani Benahmed went 7:32.92 to take second overall. The Texans would then earn a silver medal in the men’s 4×400 as Waly Bathily, Noah Lawson, Gregory Prince, and Mouatez Sikiou went 3:10.75. In the men’s 60 hurdles, freshman Isaiah Patrick was third, crossing the line in 7.92 for South Plains.
Divan Du Plooy earned All-American honors in the men’s 3000 meters with a time of 8:11.49, good enough for fifth, and then went 4:08.43 in the men’s mile to take seventh overall. In the men’s 1000 meters, Benahmed earned All-American honors with his fifth-place finish with a time of 2:27.78. In the men’s 600 meters, Sikiou posted a fourth-place national finish, clocking a final time of 1:18.31.
On the women’s side, Amber Simpson earned All-American honors with a third-place national finish, totaling 3474 points for the Lady Texans. Freshman Sydney Roquebrun finished eighth nationally in the women’s long jump, turning in a final mark of 18 5.75 . In the women’s pole vault, freshman Giuliana Saporito Schiesaro cleared the bar at 11 2.25 to take sixth nationally. In the women’s high jump, freshman Abril Okon was sixth with her mark of 5 5.75 .
The Lady Texan’s distance medley relay posted a fourthplace national finish, as Lilliana Guerrero, Safhia Hinds, Rushana Dwyer, and Lilian Mateo Torrez went 12:03.55. In the women’s 4×400, Hinds, Dwyer, Guerrero, and Quingostas placed fourth nationally with a final time of 3:46.99. In the women’s 5000, Torrez went 17:27.24, earning All-American honors with a secondplace national finish. Sophomore Rushana Dwyer turned in a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800 meters, clocking a 2:12.75.
