City of Sundown implements new utility rates, November 1

New utility rates went into effect for the City of Sundown as of November 1.

The old water rate included 2,000 gallons with a minimum charge of $25.55. The new rate will not include that minimum.

There will be an active charge of $25.55 and bills for all water usage. The bill will be per 1,000 gallons. For 1,000 gallons to 5,000 gallons, the charge will be $2.25. For 6,000 gallons to 10,000 gallons, the charge will be $2.82. For 11,000 gallons-plus, the charge will be $3.12.

Instead of $25.55 plus 2,000 gallons, the new water rate will be $25.55 and if a resident uses 2,000 gallons $2.25 will be multiplied by two for $4.50 making the total bill $30.05.

Senior rates for 1,000 gallons to 5,000 gallons will be $1.77. For 6,000 gallons to 10,000 gallons, the charge will be $2.35. For 11,000 gallons-plus, the charge will be $2.57.

The sewer service rate will increase by $1.

Natural gas has decreased according to the City of Sundown. The old minimum was $24 with 2mcf and additional cmf of 9$. The new bill is $22.60 with 2cmf and additional cmf is $8.30.

There is a 3% garbage increase for $1.05.

Any citizens of Sundown are encouraged to contact city hall during business hours if there are any further questions about the new rates that were implemented on November 1.

As a reminder for the citizens of Levelland those outside city limits who utilize city utilities, the new Levelland rates have been added.

City of Levelland

Deposits for inside the city limits will be $75 plus a $15 service charge. Deposits for those outside the city limits will be $110 plus a service charge of $15.

Reconnect fees will cost $30 during office hours and $40 after office hours. A missed turn on fee will cost $25.

To have a meter pulled will include a service charge of $50.

Re-reads will have no cost for the first and second re-read. A third or more will include a service charge of $10 thereafter.

A meter testing will include a service charge of $100 and is fully refundable if the meter is faulty.

A transfer, temporary turnoff and/or cleanup will require a service charge of $15.

A bad check will result in a service charge of $30.

Monthly water rates

Monthly water rates for residential and commercial within the city limits includes a $15 availability fee. For 0-3,000 gallons of water, $3.73 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 3,001-20,000 gallons of water, $3.86 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 20,0001 gallons of water and up, $4 will be charged per 1,000 gallons.

Monthly water rates for residential and commercial outside of city limits includes a $22.40 availability fee. For 0-3,000 gallons of water, $5.60 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 3,001-20,000 gallons of water, $5.79 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 20,0001 gallons of water and up, $6 will be charged per 1,000 gallons.

Monthly sewer rates

The monthly sewer rate for residential inside the city limits is $17.29 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $.15 per 1,000 gallons of metered water.

The monthly sewer rate for residential outside the city limits is $25.93 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $.20 per 1,000 gallons of metered water.

The monthly sewer rate for apartments inside the city limits is $17.29 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $.15 per 1,000 gallons of metered water.

The monthly sewer rate for apartments outside the city limits is $25.93 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $.20 per 1,000 gallons of metered water.

The monthly sewer rate for commercial inside the city limits is $11.77 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $1.24 per 1,000 gallons for the first 59% of water usage.

The monthly sewer rate for commercial outside the city limits is $17.65 for an availability fee plus a usage charge of $1.86 per 1,000 gallons for the first 59% of water usage.

The sewer improvement fee is $21.62 per unit.

Irrigation/sprinkler meter

Deposits for inside the city limits is $75 plus a $15 service charge.

Deposits for outside the city limits is $110 plus a $15 service charge.

For 0-3,001 gallons of water, $3.73 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 3,001-20,000 gallons of water, $3.86 will be charged per 1,000 gallons. For 20,001 gallons of water and up, $4 will be charged per 1,000 gallons.

There is a water system improvement fee of $1 per unit.

Water taps

For 5/8 and 3/4 taps the price is $900. For one inch taps the price is $1,100. Any one and half inch tap and larger will be billed at the actual cost. The cost for any pavement repair required due to the installation of a water tap will be billed in addition to the cost of the tap.

No changes were made to the temporary meter or bulk meter section as those fees have been in effect since October 2017. The section states, in addition to the $50 per month charge for the use of a temporary meter for bulk water, the city shall also require $1,000 deposit refundable if the meter and hydrant are not damaged. If the meter or hydrant is damaged and the cost of repair or replacement exceeds $1,000, the user will be responsible for all cost, not limited to the 1,000 deposit.

A credit card processing fee of 2.75% per transaction is also listed.
