Car accidents take lives of three

A vehicle crash in Hockley County resulted in the death of two people and a third seriously injured this past Friday.

The accident occurred around 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of FM 1585 and FM 168.

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), a pickup towing a trailer pulled out in front of another pickup. The second pickup hit the trailer and rolled. The driver, 44-yearold Felicia Flores and a 14--year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The second passenger, 22-year-old Aliyanna Luna, was taken to UMC with serious injuries. The other driver was not hurt.

The accident is still under investigation by DPS. Whitharral ISD posted on Facebook, saying Flores and the teenage passenger were both part of its family of students and parents, calling it “an unimaginable loss for the community, and the school will honor their memory.”

In a separate accident that occurred on Thursday, one person was pronounced dead and one person sustained serious injuries following a crash in Gaines County.

According to a press release by DPS, a preliminary investigation shows one vehicle was travelling northbound on US 385 in the right lane. A second vehicle was also traveling on the roadway in the left lane. For unknown reasons, the vehicle in the left lane veered right and collided with the other vehicle, which veered off the roadway and rolled over.

The driver and front passenger of the car were not wearing seatbelts and were both ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the rolled vehicle, Brenda Anais Archuleta, 30 of Ropesville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 13-year-old minor who was ejected was transported to UMC with serious injuries. Three other minor passengers did not sustain any injuries, nor did the driver of the other vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
