Chamber to hold annual golf fundraiser

The Chamber of Commerce is set to hold its 26th annual golf tournament on Monday, May 11, at the Levelland Country Club. The morning flight will start at 8 a.m., a putting contest will take place at 12:30, and the afternoon flight will begin at 2 p.m.

The event is one of the chamber’s longest-running annual fundraisers and consistently draws local business members and community participants. Mary Siders, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, believes the tournament is meant as a way to meet new people, have fun, and compete.

“This is a networking opportunity where chamber members can come out and enjoy a free lunch,” Siders said. “It's a good opportunity for chamber members to come out and network with 100 other people.”

The idea of the tournament is to create a casual environment that encourages connections between local businesses and community members who may not interact regularly.

The tournament serves not only as a community gathering but also as a fundraiser. Mary Siders describes how the chamber’s golf tournament and other events fund its cause.

“This is one of our fundraisers that feeds our programs all year long,” Siders said. “So we actually host it, facilitate it. Our board of directors assists us in securing tee box sponsors and teams.”

Funds raised from the event support Chamber programming, business outreach, and other community initiatives throughout the year.

Registration is currently open for teams interested in participating. Team registration is $500, and solo registration is $125. This includes the putting contest, high-hand poker, mulligans, and lunch. To register for the event, call 806-894-3157 or call the tournament director at 806470-1240. Teams that inquire will be directed to a registration form.

Registration is handled through the chamber staff and the tournament director, who help place teams into flights.

Each flight has a maximum of 20 teams. The morning flight is nearly full, and the afternoon flight has six spots left. Once both flights reach capacity, additional teams will be placed on a waiting list in case of cancellations.

“If you're a golfer, get with us or get with the pro shop,” Siders said. “Jim Mara is our tournament director, and he's been a crucial part of making the tournament successful.”

Both experienced and casual golfers are encouraged to participate, regardless of skill level. The chamber thanks all its participants for their support over the years.
