City landfill, garbage rates adjusted

The city of Levelland is in the process of updating garbage pickup and landfill use rates. Ordinance No. 1112 will adjust the utility rates in the water, wastewater and sanitation department and add several amendments.

Due to the phasing out of the penny, rates are being rounded up for simplicity purposes and new landfill rates are being established.

Garbage collection rates for all residential customers located outside the corporate limits of the city who requested and were granted garbage collection service will be charged a rate equal to one and onehalf times the in-city rate. All mercantile, professional and business customers located outside the corporate limits will be charged a monthly fee equal to $100 per container per number of pickups per week.

For large commercial institutions and industrial accounts located outside the corporate limits of the city with numerous containers, separate pick-up locations, peculiar or nontypical waste, rates will be determined by the city.

City residents within the corporate limit who have a utility bill will be allowed to dump 4 cubic yards of material per month, excluding tires, at the landfill with no charge, using light trailers or light pickup trucks.

City and county residents will be charged for nonresidential solid waste at the city-established stations or at the landfill at these rates: 0 to 1,000 pounds for $20; loads exceeding 1,000 pounds but not more than 1,999 pounds for $40; loads weighing 2,000 pounds, $40 and plus $9 per 500 pounds in excess of 2,000 pounds.

All unsecured loads will be charged an additional $25.

Tire disposal rates will include passenger car tires, $5 each; light truck tires, $10 each; semi-truck or tires exceeding 20 inches, $15 each; pivot or small tractor tires, $25 each; large tractor tires exceeding 42 inches, $35 each; and tires with steel rims, an additional $10 each.
