The Hockley County Commissioner’s Court met Monday to discuss building upgrades at the Mallet Event Center & Arena, an airport maintenance agreement, the purchase of new county equipment, and other important county business.
Commissioners approved an agreement with KWA Engineering & Building Science Co., Inc. to provide professional services for planned roofing improvements at the Mallet Event Center & Arena.
County officials said they checked KWA’s references with other area organizations and received positive feedback about the company’s work, particularly its oversight of contrac- tors.
Commissioners also approved a Routine Airport Maintenance Program agreement between Hockley County and the Texas Department of Transportation for fiscal year 2027.
With this agreement, TxDOT will provide 90 percent of eligible project costs, up to $100,000, while the local sponsor will be responsible for the remaining 10 percent.
The court also approved the purchase of a JCB 300 skid steer from ASCO Equipment through BuyBoard for use at the Mallet Event Center & Arena. Officials said the facility’s current skid steer has roughly 4,000 hours put into it.
Hockley County Public Assistance reported receiving 16 applications during August, with 13 being approved for a combined $1362.28 in assistance.
Commissioners approved the appointment of Tana Lockett to the Juvenile Board after a previous member stepped down from the position.
The court also approved the Annual Public Notice for Indigent Health Care for 2027. Officials said the notice remains largely unchanged from the previous year, with updates reflecting the new location where applications can be obtained and the availability of the program handbook online.
Commissioners also approved the bond of Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge and the official bond and oath of Jeff Pharis as a reserve deputy with the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office.
The court also reviewed the monthly fire runs submitted by the Levelland Fire Department.
In other business, the court approved minutes from its regular Aug. 31 meeting, along with monthly bills and claims submitted through Sept. 14.
