First United Methodist offers GriefShare, DivorceCare

First United Methodist in Levelland is reaching out to the community through its GriefShare and DivorceCare programs to assist anyone who may be going through a difficult period, be it a death, divorce or other challenging losses.

GriefShare is a support group that offers the encouragement to transform a journey from mourning to joy and is led by caring people who have experi- enced grief.

Each week there is a different video session including such topics as “Is this Normal,” “Challenges of Grief,” “The Journey of Grief” and more. GriefShare meets each Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, or people may participate through Zoom online. More information can be found at Griefshare.org.

DivorceCare is a 13week support group program that offers a place to help understand the difficult emotions and challenges of separation and divorce and know what to expect in the days ahead. It offers helpful ways to cope and navigate relationships.

Topics include dealing with loneliness, anxiety, bitterness, anger and grief, and the importance of forgiving as well as financial issues.

At weekly meetings, participants will review a video featuring respected counselors, pastors and healthcare professionals on divorce and recovery topics as well as hear personal stories. Everyone will receive a book to take home filled with valuable exercises to engage a personal road to recovery.

The DivorceCare program begins on Aug. 25 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., but interested people may join any Tuesday. To register or for more information, visit divorcecare.org or contact First Methodist Church, 1011 Houston St. or call 806-894-6159.

The group also offers an online version during the same time period if unable to attend in person.
