Levelland ISD sets strategy with Improvement Plan

Levelland ISD has its eye set on scholastic improvements after trustees approved the 2025-2026 Improvement Plan that reflects much input from the Survey Action Plan.

The Survey Action Plan is based on results from students, staff, parents and the community.

The survey indicates district strengths which included committed teachers and staff, experienced leadership teams, student and staff safety and security, positive promotion of district activities and a wide variety of student academic and extracurricular programs.

Opportunities for the district to improve include providing staff with support to increase student achievement, increased avenues for staff appreciation, student discipline accountability and continuing to promote effective communication.

Each campus offered input on the survey indicating its strengths and an action plan.

Levelland ABC included in its plan to ensure the mentor teacher and newer are the same teams to offer organic opportunities for coaching, using jigsaw intervention for all grades levels, creating a master schedule and students tracking their data.

Capitol Elementary plans include refreshing and collaborating on expectations and routinely reminding staff and parents of expectations for successful inclusion and strategies and mitigate negative consequences of large class sizes by scheduling teaching assistants to provide support.

South Elementary targets include all staff be trained in the PBIS system and the expectations of students and staff, encouraging students to want to be at school, a monthly calendar to send home with dates of school events, along with posting on social media and Parent Square.

Levelland Middle School aims to create a better discipline system and increase academic performance on STAAR. A student conductor system has been implemented to track incidents such as tardies, restroom passes, tutorials and after-school detention assignments which automatically notifies parents when the student’s account is accessed, helping ensure more consistent discipline and home-school communication.

Additionally, the flex period has been extended to 45 minutes for better remedial instruction and a new pre-teach math class has been introduced for 7th and 8th graders to assist those who are struggling.

Levelland High School’s action plan is to develop a remediation schedule plan that meets the needs of the students to improve STAAR academic performance and develop a campus-based attendance task force for improving overall attendance.

The LISD Campus Improvement Plan for 20252026 aligns many of the Survey Action Plan goals along with additional and specific educational targets.

The Campus Improvement Plan is reviewed by the campus advisory committee and the principal three times during the school year and must be approved by the school board.

The improvement plan includes numerous performance objectives and goals for every campus, family and community partnerships, financial effectiveness and efficiency, increasing scores on STAAR, recruiting teachers and support staff, and ultimately improving reading and math and whatever leads to building a strong student foundation for educational growth.
