West Texas Mesonet gives rainfall update

Weathermen were calling for scattered showers, some locally heavy, going into the weekend but saw up to two inches fall in places.

Sunday was mostly dry with a few showers in the evening, but rain returned Monday evening.

The rain moved in from the west with Cochran County getting enough rain that the Rainfall was recorded all night Friday and into the early morning hours Saturday with measurements ranging from a few tenths to nearly two inches in places.

On the south side of Levelland, measurements ranged from 1.75 to 2 inches while on the north side, measurements were 1.25 to 1.5 inches. In downtown Levelland, measurements ranged from 1.38 at the Texas A&M Extension Office on Houston Street to 1.65 behind the News-Press.

The West Texas Mesonet site south of Levelland recorded 1.01 inches over the weekend and overnight Monday. Monday’s first round of rain fell around 4 p.m and again around 9:30 p.m.

The Morton Mesonet site east of town recorded 1.58 inches over the weekend and Monday.

The Mesonet site at Smyer recorded 0.95 of an inch over the weekend while the Sundown site on the Mallet Ranch recorded the least amount of moisture, 0.23 of an inch over the weekend.

The Anton Mesonet site recorded 0.88 of an inch over the weekend and Monday.
