LPD warns of scam cartel kidnapping calls

The Levelland Police Department LPD) has received an increase in reports of fraudulent calls from unknown callers claim to be affiliated with a cartel and allege to a loved one has been kidnapped.

These callers often demand immediate payment, threaten serious harm if the call is disconnected and attempt to keep victims on the phone to prevent verification.

LPD warns that this is a scam and callers rely on fear and urgency to pressure victims into sending money.

Anyone receiving one of these calls is advised to hang up , do not send money or share personal information, and call the loved one to directly to verify their safety.

LPD asks that anyone receiving one of these calls to contact the police department immediately so trends can be tracked to protect the community.
