LHS advances to UIL academic regionals

Levelland High School students have advanced to the UIL Region I 4A academic competition after winning or placing at Bi-District in their respective contests.

The Regional meet will be held towards the end of April at Frenship Memorial High School.

Nathan Ellis won second place in accounting with the accounting team placing second earning regional alternate with team members Nathan Ellis, Cy’Jai Mitchel (individual alternate) and Zachery Lopez.

Ellis also placed first in calculator applications, advancing him to regionals in that event. The calculator applications team included Ellis, Melodie Demel, Caylin Lewis, Marcos Romero and Eduardo Garcia, placed second and is the regionals alternate.

Additionally, Ellis will advance in mathematics after winning second place. The mathematics team is regional alternate with team members Ellis, Fabiola Hernandez, Andy Kim and Marcus Romero.

Ada Niederhauser placed first in copy editing and will advance to regionals, with Fabiola Hernandez scoring third place, making her a regional alternate.

In feature writing, Anjali Gutierrez, second place, and Ada Niederhauser, third place, earned a trip to regionals. Fabiola Hernandez, fifth place, is the regional alternate.

Two will be heading to regionals in editorial, including Ada Niederhauser, first place, and Elizabeth Hackler, third place. Fabiola Hernandez won fifth and is the regionals alternate.

Ada Niedershauser, first place, and Fabiola Hernandez, second place, also advanced to regionals in news writing.

Advancing in the current events contest are Christian Chagoya, second place, and JW Drachenberg, third place. The team is the regionals alternate with members include Christian Chagoya, JW Drachenberg, Lavannah Simental and Mason Lawhon.

Competing in headline writing, Melodie Demel won second place and is advancing to regionals, with Lavannah Simental placing sixth and regionals alternate. MJ Niederhauser competed in literary criticism and earned a trip to regionals with second place. She will also advance to regionals with a firth place in spelling.

In the social studies competition, JW Drachenberg placed first and will advance to regionals, and Mason Lawhon, placed fifth is the regionals alternate.
