New elections office in Levelland renovated

A new elections office in Levelland is currently under construction. The new building will be located at 710 Avenue H, serving a dual purpose for residents across the county as an early voting location and a polling place on Election Day.

The building features a mural across the north wall with the U.S. flag and a windmill, representing Levelland culture. Right now, the building is off-limits to the public, but it will be made available later this year. Regarding how elections will work during the current voting period, they will remain unaffected until construction is finished and until further notice.

No changes are planned for the current elections, and all deadlines will remain the same. The transition to the new Elections Office will be sometime in June 2026. The first election in the new location will be the general election in November of this year.

Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge said a building change was necessary to meet county needs and explained how it benefits the people who use it.

“The new Elections Office is a strong investment in the county’s future because it improves both access and efficiency for voters,” Baldridge said. “By housing election operations in a dedicated, centrally located facility, the county can better serve residents with a space designed specifically for voting, early voting, and election administration.”

In addition to improving capacity, the new office strengthens election security and the protection of election equipment. Judge Baldridge believes this is necessary to protect voters.

“It keeps Hockley County in full compliance with current security requirements, ensuring that our election process remains safe, efficient, and reliable for all voters,” Baldridge said. “It also enhances organization by consolidating equipment, staff, and processes in one location, which helps ensure elections run smoothly and transparently.”

The focus on compliance and security is part of a broader effort to improve the county’s election system. Updates will help meet current requirements while making operations more efficient and easier to manage. The changes are meant to support a consistent and reliable process for voters.

The new Elections Office is expected to build on those efforts by increasing space and capacity. The facility will allow more voters to be served at one time, especially during busy election periods. The added space will help the county better handle turnout and improve overall operations.

“We are excited to expand services to our constituents with the new Elections Office, which will benefit all of Hockley County,” Baldridge said. “The facility will provide substantially more space for voting, allowing us to accommodate a higher number of voters at one time, especially during busy election periods, than ever before.”

The new elections office will represent a long-term investment in Hockley County’s voting infrastructure, aimed at improving access, security, and efficiency for future elections.
