Funeral services were held on Thursday December 21, at 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Levelland.

A rosary was held Wednesday, December 2, at 7 p.m. Officiating was done by Rev. Jonathan Phillips and Rev. Heriberto Mercado. Music was by Joe Flores. Interment was held at the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Visitations and Reflections of Life were held on Tuesday Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel in Levelland.

Pallbearers were Ray Aragon, Leo Lopez, Patrick Duarte, Chris Walker, Jonathan Duarte, Colton Duarte Modesta passed from this life on December 16, in Muleshoe. Modesta was born to McClovio and Francisca Meraz Chavez on November 4, 1929 in Barstow.

Funeral services held for Modesta Cantu, 94

were married August 2, 1949 in Levelland and they had seven children from this union.

Her home cooking filled her families hearts with love and joy bringing many together for cherished moments that will live on forever.

She worked for South Plains College as a custodian and house keeping for over 10 years.

She has touched so many lives throughout her career over the years. Hockley County Senior Citizens awarded her Volunteer of the Year for her dedicated service. She was also a member of the La Guadalupanas for several years at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Levelland. She was very loved and enjoyed spending time with all her family and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 47 years, Aniseto Saiz Cantu. Daughter: Frances Cantu Duarte Parents: McClovio and Francisca Chavez Sisters: Anastacia Mora Brothers: Angel Chavez and Francisco Chavez Survivors: Son: Ernest and spouse Omega Cantu of Levelland Daughters: Modesta and spouse Randy Lewis of Levelland, Mary Ann Milewski of Arlington, and Estela Duarte of Muleshoe Brother: Viquien and spouse Rosa Chavez of Levelland. Grandchildren 26 and Great Grandchildren: 23.
