MAXIMO LEDESMA JR.
Maximo “Max” Ledesma Jr., born April 20, 1947, in Menard, Texas, to Maximo Sr. and Inocente De La Cruz Ledesma, entered eternal life on March 22, 2026.
On February 24, 1968, he married the love of his life, Janie Romo, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland, Texas. Max often recalled the first time he met Janie and told his mother that he would marry her—true to his word, they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage.
Max and Janie were blessed with seven children: Melinda, Melissa (Tony), Mary Lou, Max III (Yvette), Magdalena, Matthew, and Michelle (Anthony). His legacy continues through his 18 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, and three bonus great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Matthew and Magdalena; his parents; and numerous brothers and sisters. Max and Janie built their marriage and family life upon a deep and unwavering Catholic faith, striving always to live as true disciples of God’s purpose.
A devoted servant to both his faith and his community, Max dedicated his life to helping others. From a young age, he shared his musical talents at his home parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He served the City of Levelland as a City Councilman for 11 years (2013–2021, 2023–present), including time as Mayor Pro Tem, assisting Mayor Barbara Pinner. During his tenure, he was a strong advocate for improving community parks and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Max’s love for music was evident throughout his life. He led his Tejano band, Sol Mayo, and found great joy in playing guitar and singing—especially alongside his son Matthew. For over 50 years, he was a dedicated member of the Spanish choir at St. Michael’s. His service to the church extended far beyond music. Max was actively involved in numerous ministries and organizations, including Cursillistas, Sagrado Corazón, the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, and the Jamaica Committee.
He welcomed every priest assigned to St. Michael’s with warmth and friendship, often inviting them into his home for meals and family gatherings.
Together, Max and Janie lived out their faith through Marriage Encounter and later became leaders in the Deeper Apostolic program, guiding others through Marriage Encounter retreats.
Max worked for several major companies, including United Supermarkets, Furr’s, Acme Brick, and Spartan Transportation, where he consistently demonstrated strong leadership and dedication. He retired from Acme Brick after more than 26 years of service.
Max also had a passion for mentoring youth through sports. He coached baseball and softball, supporting his children as athletes—many of whom followed in his footsteps as coaches. He and Janie were ever-present at games, as well as dance recitals, graduations, band performances, and countless other family milestones.
Each evening, Max and Janie prayed the Rosary together, faithfully lifting up their children, family members, and friends— especially those who had passed. He continually encouraged others to deepen their prayer life and strengthen their relationship with God.
Max was known for his compassion and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand. He often provided small jobs and opportunities to those in need, offering not just work, but dignity and hope.
Max’s life was a testament to faith, family, service, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
