Dr. John Michael Roberson of Duncanville, Texas “Mike” to friends and family, passed away in the early hours of March 12th after a brief illness. He was 77 years old. Mike was born in Dalhart, Texas on September 24th, 1945, the second child and first son of Myrtice Ellen and Dr. Bob J. Roberson. Mike grew up in Levelland, Texas and graduated from Levelland High School in 1964. He graduated from North Texas State University, where he met his future wife, Rebecca “Becky” Shirley Roberson, whom he married in January of 1967. The first of their four children , Chris, was born while the couple was still living in Memphis, Tennessee, as Mike was finishing his dental degree at the University of Tennessee. The couple then relocated to Duncanville, Texas and added three more children to their family-Brooke and Mary, fraternal twins, and Jenny.
For over fifty years, generations of patients were served by Dr. Roberson’s dental practice. In addition to dentistry, Mike’s passions included fishing, tinkering in his shop, and most of all his family. He was forever and always “Pops” to his large number of grandchildren.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Bob Roberson and Myrtice Kinard Roberson, brother, Brian Douglas Roberson, and beloved wife, Rebecca “Becky” Roberson.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Chris Roberson, and Brooke Roberson (Pauline), daughters, Mary Johnson (Robert) and Jenny Bumgarner (Eric), grandchildren, John and Henry Bumgarner, Danny Roberson, Maggie and Grace Johnson, and Michael and Rebecca Roberson, sister, Susan Watkins (Robert), niece, Lauren Watkins Gregory (Ty), and nephew, Steven Watkins (Shannon).
After the death of his wife in 2010, Dr. Roberson spent his remaining years in the house that the couple called home, surrounded by family and cherished memories. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. A private service was held in his memory on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.
