Lady Lopes win, Antelopes fall in Plains matchups

The Whiteface Lady Lopes and Antelopes both played host in district matchups against each respective Plains team this past Tuesday night, with the Lady Lopes winning 57-27 and the Antelopes losing 53-38.

The #5 ranked Lady Lopes were in action first, earning their 20th consecutive win to improve to 24-2 overall, 10-0 in home games, 5-0 in district play and first in the 2A District 5 standings.

After the first quarter, the Lady Lopes led the Plains Cowgirls 23-0, and that trend of domination never ended in route to victory.

Scorers for the Lady Lopes included Kambry Sanders with 21 points behind four three-pointers made, Lainey Sanders with nine points powered by a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line, Emily Blankenship with eight points behind two three-pointers made, Abi Soliz and Keyarah Castaneda both with six points, Gracyn Kauffman with three points, and Rhaelyn Bracey and Taryn Turnipseed both with two points.

In the Antelopes matchup against the Plains Cowboys, they trailed by 20 points after the third quarter, and even though they did outscore Plains in the fourth quarter, the deficit was just too much to overcome.

Scorers for the Antelopes included Isaak Soliz with 10 points, Cesar Chavez with nine points, Luke Gresham with six points, Victor Borunda and Ivaniel Gandara both with five points, and Jose Flores with three points.

The loss drops the Antelopes to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in district play, which places them fifth in the district standings.

Both teams will be back in action for district matchups at Sundown over the weekend, and then again on Tuesday at Morton with the girl’s game at 6:45 p.m. and the boy’s game at 8 p.m.
