Roughettes run rule Reagan County, win Regional Finals

The Sundown Roughettes squared off against the Reagan County Lady Owls in the Regional Finals Round of the 2A Division 2 playoffs in a one-game winner takes all series this past Thursday at Andrews High School, resulting in the Roughettes run ruling them 17-0 in five innings to win the Regional Finals Championship.

Sundown scored five runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, nine runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning.

In the team statistics, the Roughettes bested the Lady Owls 17-0 in hits, 4-2 in walks and 0-5 in errors committed.

Breigh Gregory and Destiny Garza combined for the Roughettes no-hitter, as Gregory pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and Garza pitched four scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

They were backed by several standout performances at the plate, including catcher Brynly Gregory going ¾ with four runs-batted- in and three runs scored, second baseman Nayleen Morin going 1/3 with three RBIs, a run scored, a double and a walk, first baseman Araceli Ibarra going ¼ with three RBIs, a home run and a run scored, Garza going ¾ with three runs scored, two RBIs and two doubles, center fielder Camry Jourden going 2/4 with two RBIs, two doubles and a run scored, and shortstop Emry Jourden going 3/3 with three runs scored, an RBI, a triple and a walk.

Others included Breigh Gregory going 2/3 with two runs scored and a walk, Miranda Posadas going 1/3 with a run scored and a walk, and right fielder Jaelyn Dominguez going 1/3 with two runs scored.

The win improves the Roughettes to 28-3 overall and advances them to the State Semifinal, where they’ll face the Muenster Lady Hornets.

The series is a best-ofthree at Abilene Christian University. Game one is on Thursday at 6 p.m.; game two is on Saturday at 4 p.m. and game three will follow immediately after game two if necessary.
