The 2A District 5 Girls Track & Field Championships took place this past Thursday and Friday at Sundown High School, resulting in a dominant team effort from the Sundown Roughettes and countless area qualifiers from Sundown, Smyer, Ropes, Whiteface and Morton, as in every event, the top four finishers advanced to the Area Championships.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Smyer was the District Champions with a time of 50.47; Sundown was the runners-up with a time of 51.08 and Ropes placed third with a time of 52.48.
In the 800-meter run, Avy McGlasson (Sundown) was the District Champion with a time of 2:25.88, Addilyn Hord (Sundown) was the runner-up with a time of 2:36.46, Kaytlin Clausen (Sundown) placed third with a time of 2:37.86 and Jada Hernandez (Smyer) placed fourth with a time of 2:41.87.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Adalyn Falls (Ropes) was the District Champion with a time of 15.51, Makenzie Zapata (Smyer) was the runner- up with a time of 17.82, Emily Brewer (Whiteface) placed fourth with a time of 18.23 and Arriana Soliz (Whiteface) placed fourth with a time of 18.34.
In the 100-meter dash, Kira Posadas (Smyer) was the runner-up with a time of 12.69; Emry Jourden (Sundown) placed third with a time of 12.91 and Bethany Honesto (Sundown) placed fourth with a time of 13.03.
In the 4x200-meter relay, Smyer was the District Champions with a time of 1:48.73; Sundown placed runner-up with a time of 1:49.80 and Whiteface placed fourth with a time of 1:52.98.
In the 400-meter dash, Karter Hord (Sundown) was the District Champion with a time of 1:01.27, Avy McGlasson was the runnerup with a time of 1:01.29, Kinley Nale (Ropes) placed third with a 1:01.38 and Sarah Posadas (Sundown) placed fourth with a 1:02.35.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Adalyn Falls was the District Champion with a time of 47.23; Lainey Sanders (Whiteface) placed third with a time of 49.69 and Ellie Nelson (Smyer) placed fourth with a time of 49.86.
In the 200-meter dash, Elexis Robinson (Sundown) was the runner-up with a time of 27.12; Riley Scifres (Sundown) placed third with a time of 27.92 and Breigh Gregory (Sundown) placed fourth with a time of 28.01.
In the 1,600-meter run, Kaytlin Clausen was the District Champion with a time of 5:54.50; Addilyn Hord was the runner-up with a time of 6:01.11 and Rhaelyn Bracey placed third with a time of 6:06.34.
In the 3,200-meter run, Clausen was the District Champion with a time of 13:01.44, Rhaelyn Bracey was runner-up with a time of 13:16.12, Addilyn Hord placed third with a 13:51.19 and Karmindy Townsend (Sundown) placed fourth with a time of 14:09.40.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Ropes was the District Champions with a time of 4:09.28; Sundown was the runners-up with a time of 4:10.76; Whiteface placed third with a time of 4:27.73 and Smyer placed fourth with a time of 4:43.05.
In the high jump, Riley Scifres was the District Champion with a jump of 5’-0”, Brylee Lauderdale (Ropes) was runner-up with a jump of 5’-0”, Ellie Nelson placed third with a jump of 4’10” and Jada Hernandez (Smyer) placed fourth with a jump of 4’-10”.
In the pole vault, Aynika Riley (Ropes) was the District Champion with a vault of 8’-6”, Kira Posadas (Smyer) was runner-up with a vault of 8’-0”, Mikah Woodley (Ropes) placed third with a vault of 8’-0” and Skylar Wiseman placed fourth with a vault of 7’-0”.
In the long jump, Elexis Robinson was the District Champion with a jump of 16’-6.50”, Ashtyn Burriss (Smyer) was runner-up with a jump of 16’-1.50”, Sydney Brooks (Ropes) placed third with a jump of 15’-1.50” and Khloe Kimbell-Morgan (Smyer) placed fourth with a jump of 14’-10.75”.
In the triple jump, Burriss was the District Champion with a jump of 38’-2.50”, Emry Jourden (Sundown) was runner-up with a jump of 33’-01”, Maddy Medrano (Sundown) placed third with a jump of 32’-4.50” and Khloe Aguirre placed fourth with a jump of 31’-0”.
In the discus, Zailyn Wylie (Ropes) was the District Champion with a throw of 110-4”, Addison Bridges (Sundown) was runner-up with a throw of 95’-06”, Sarah Benevedes (Smyer) placed third with a throw of 90’-3” and Dhaya Marinelarena (Sundown) placed fourth with a throw of 84’9”.
In the shot put, Wylie was the District Champion with a throw of 30’-4.25”, Keyarah Castaneda (Whiteface) was runner-up with a throw of 29’-9.50” and Alexis Brinklow (Sundown) placed third with a throw of 29’-5”.
In the team standings, Sundown scored 226 total points to secure the District Championship, Smyer scored 126 total points to finish runnersup, Ropes placed third with 118 total points, Whiteface placed fourth with 69 total points and Morton placed sixth with seven total points.
Every qualifier is set to compete at the Area Championships this Friday at Sundown High School once again.
