The 2A District 5 High School Boys and Girls District Golf Tournaments took place this past Monday at the Resse Golf Course in Lubbock, and the Sundown, Morton, Smyer, Whiteface and Ropes programs all put forth honorable efforts in competition.
Sundown had the best day of them all, bringing home four District Championships between two individual titles and two team titles.
For the Roughnecks, Isaiah Igo shot a 62 to win the Individual District Championship, Drew Igo shot a 74 to place second, Brock Bufe shot an 82 to place third, Landry Farrar shot a 91 to place 10th and Axel Garcia shot a 97 to place 12th. They combined for a total team score of 309 to win the Boys District Championship.
For the Roughettes, Jayden Sandlin shot a 78 to win the Individual District Championship, Maddy Medrano shot a 104 to place fifth, Bethany Honesto shot a 110 to place eighth and Addilyn Hord shot a 128 to place 15th. They combined for a total team score of 420 to win the Girls District Championship.
“We had a very solid day of golf at the Reese Golf Course on Monday,” Sundown Head Golf Coach Kyle Igo said. “Our kids were prepared and confident and played great. These kids are working hard and it’s very rewarding to see some fantastic results. We were grateful for a beautiful day to go compete and we give God all the glory. We have a lot of goals still out in front of us, and we can’t wait to go tackle those.”
Meanwhile, the Ropes Eagles and Lady Eagles weren’t far behind Sundown, as both teams finished as the runners-up.
For the Eagles, Cutter Stumbo shot an 83 to place fourth, Brett Amador shot an 88 to place fifth, Ryland Kieth shot an 89 to place sixth, Cason Kucel shot a 90 to place ninth and Brayden Hogg shot a 103 to place 16th. They combined for a total team score of 350 to place second.
For the Lady Eagles, Mikah Woodley shot a 105 to place sixth, Allye Bandy shot a 119 to place 12th, Chloe Richardson shot a 122 to place 13th, Karli Rhoads shot a 125 to place 14th and Alyssa Welch shot a 134 to place 19th. They combined for a team score of 471 to place second.
The Morton Indians finished third in the boys team standings with a score of 400, led by EJ Rivas and Britton Boggs, who tied for sixth place after both shooting an 89. They were followed by Jaeden Alvarado who shot a 95 to place 11th, Rafael Acevedo who shot a 127 to place 36th and Justin Rivas who shot a 128 to place 37th.
On the Maidens side of things, Addy Sabala shot a 99 to place fourth, Natalie Ramirez shot a 105 to place sixth and Evolet Vigil shot a 118 to place 11th.
The Smyer Lady Cats placed third in the girls team standings with a score of 513, led by Kira Posadas who shot a 115 to place ninth, followed by Lynzie Benevedes who shot a 130 to place 16th, Emma Vonberg who shot a 132 to place 17th and Makenzie Zapata who shot a 136 to place 20th. On the Bobcats side of things, they placed eighth as team with a score of 476, led by Ryann Gutierrez who shot a 111 to place 20th. He was followed by Caleb Pearce who shot a 112 to place 22nd, Colton Burriss who shot a 124 to place 32nd, Gage Pastusek who shot a 129 to place 38th and Skyler Pond who shot a 130 to place 39th.
The Whiteface Antelopes placed seventh as team with a score of 473, led by Luke Gresham and Hudson Wilcox, who tied for 24th after both shooting a 116. They were followed by Braxton Davidson who shot a 119 to place 27th, Rylan Poage who shot a 122 to place 31st and Lincoln Calhoun who shot a 124 to place 32nd.
On the Lady Lopes side of things, Heidi Wilcox was their lone competitor, and she shot a 150 to place 22nd.
