Sundown High School held their Athletic Banquet for the 2025-26 sports season this past Monday night in the Sundown Room at South Plains College, recognizing everything their athletes accomplished in each respective sport.
In cross country, the Roughettes were the District Champions and finished fifth place at Regionals. Kaytlin Clausen was key in those efforts, finishing as the District Champion and sixth place at Regionals. She’d also bring home a 10th place finish at the State Championships.
On the boy’s side of things, the Roughnecks finished as the District Runners-Up and third at Regionals, which qualified them for the State Meet.
In football, the Roughnecks finished 4-7 overall and 3-2 in district play and made the postseason. First team All-District honorees included Nathan McAdams as a tight end and outside linebacker, running back Jeremiah Reyes, offensive lineman Christian Quintana, inside linebacker Trevor Bridges, defensive tackle Andrew Rodriguez and utility player Coen Nevarez.
In boys basketball, the Roughnecks finished 10-14 overall and 5-8 in district play. All-District honorees included Kye Powell and Nathan McAdams.
In girls basketball, the Roughettes finished 24-13 overall and 10-3 in district play. They were the District Runners-Up and Bi-District Champions. All-District honorees included Camry Jourden, Kelbie Powell and Kyndal Taggart.
In girls powerlifting, the Roughettes had eight regional qualifiers in Aliyah Martinez, CeCe Trinidad, Joclyn Baeza, Dhaya Marinalarena, Anita Garcia, Elena Lujan, Miranda Posadas and Alexis Brinklow. They were also able to place first as a team at the Sundown and Frenship meets.
In boys powerlifting, the Roughnecks had three state qualifiers in Rolando Rivera, Ryan Pope and Andrew Rodriguez, all of whom qualified for regionals and placed top two. Other regional qualifiers included JC Jenkins, Jeremiah Reyes, MJ Sanchez, Ryland Baldwin, Corey Goodman, Davian Campos, Dave Pormanes, Joseph O’Canas, Lucas Fierro, Mark Campos, Brayden Longoria, Christian Quintana, Aiden Brinklow and Paul Muniz. The Roughnecks were also able to place first as a team at the Sundown, Levelland and Lubbock High meets.
In golf, the Roughnecks placed eighth at State, third at Regionals and were the District Champions. Individually, Isaiah Igo placed third at State and was the Regional Runner-Up, and Drew Igo placed 16th at State and sixth at Regionals.
Meanwhile, the Roughettes were District Champions and placed 10th at Regionals. Individually, Jayden Sandlin was a state qualifier, finishing fifth overall.
In team tennis, Sundown finished as the District Runners-Up. Regional qualifiers included Corey and Dave Pormanes in the boys doubles, and Lincoln Keesler in the boys singles. District finishes included Izzy Hoover and Carrigan Dietz placing third in the girls doubles, Corey and Dave Pormanes placing second in the boys doubles, Lincoln Keesler placing second in the boys singles and Luis Posadas finishing third in the boys singles.
In girls track, the Roughettes were the District Champions and Area Runners-Up. Elexis Robinson was a state qualifier in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.63, a Roughettes school record, which she had broken three times previously. She’ll run at State over the weekend. Regional qualifiers included Kaytlin Clausen, Bethany Honesto, Breigh Gregory, Brynly Gregory, Emry Jourden, Avy McGlasson, Addie Hord, Camry Jourden, Sarah Posadas, Dhaya Marinalarena, Addison Bridges, Elexis Robinson and Karter Hord.
In boys track, the Roughnecks were the District Runner-Up and placed fifth at Area. Regional qualifiers included Nathan McAdams, Jaydith Shelton, Josh Hogan, Ryan Pope, JC Jenkins, Corey Pormanes, Jose Aleman and Cooper Day.
In unified track, the Sundown team of Jazmine Chino, Maddie Escamilla, Brendyn Stanley and Emmanuel Garcia were Regional Champions.
In baseball, the Roughnecks finished 11-14 overall and 7-7 in district play, which was good for a thirdplace finish in 2A District 4 standings and a trip to the postseason. All-District selections are yet to be announced due to opponents still competing.
In softball, the Roughettes have won the District Championship, Bi-District Championship and Area Championship so far, but are still actively playing in the postseason as they seek to win back-to-back titles. All-District selections will be announced following the postseason.
