Kat Jordan with the Capitol Elementary Parent Club is seeking donations to revamp the outdoor concrete basketball court at the school.
Created four years ago by Jordan, the goal for the club is to fundraise and use the dollars in a variety of ways that benefit the students. An example would be covering the costs of t-shirts during a field day for each student on campus.
“Speaking with the principal, we asked her what is something you really want? She said I would love a new basketball court. It’s cracked and ugly,” explained Jordan. “The basketball court is just not safe for the children and we are doing everything we can to fix it.”
In her first year for the club, she realized the basketball court was a big budget item, but by the second year of managing the club she was motivated more than ever to make it happen.
“With the realization that this was possible, by the third year we were able to raise almost enough money to pay for this,” said Jordan. “We also want to do other things for the teachers and students for field days or water days.”
The goal was estimated at around $45,000 for the project. Close to their goal, the club lacks about $4,000 more to make the new court happen. There is no deadline, but the club is hopeful to have it done by the start of the school year.
“We have had so many businesses like Allied Oilfield, Brave Oilfield, Pipeline Plastics and Alexander Lift that have helped us out so much. We couldn’t have done this without them,” said Jordan.
Jordan has set up a website for anyone willing to donate or volunteer their time on this project. Parents can help by going to signupgenuis.com to donate.
