Hockley County community parade celebrates local spirit, gives back

The inaugural Hockley County Community Parade on Oct. 4, 2025, brought together residents, businesses, schools, and organizations from across the county for a day full of celebration, creativity, and community pride.

Hosted in partnership by Main Street Levelland and the Wallace Theater, the parade marked the beginning of a new local tradition one focused not only on fun and festivity, but on giving back to the communities that make Hockley County so special.

All parade entry fees collected from participants were donated right back into the community, with each of the three category winners choosing a local organization to receive a $250 contribution on their behalf.

This year’s winners included: Individual Category: Kay Whitley — who chose to give back to the South Plains Rural Health Food Bank, supporting local families in need.

Business Category: Attitudes Hair and Nail Salon — who donated to the Levelland Boxing Club, helping empower youth through discipline and fitness.

School/ Non- Profit Category: South Plains College Student Life Department — who gave back to the Wallace Theater, supporting arts, culture, and community programming downtown.

“This first year was an incredible success,” said JoLenna Carter of the Wallace Theater. “Seeing everyone come together and knowing that the parade directly benefited local causes made it even more meaningful. It’s a beautiful reminder of the heart of Hockley County.”

Kelly Hancock, director of Main Street Levelland, shared how the event came to be: “Main Street Levelland and the Wallace Theater saw a need in our community to continue cherished traditions and create new ones that bring people together. Collaborating on this parade was a no-brainer, it’s all about celebrating our county and the incredible people who make it such a special place to live.”

As the presenting sponsor for the festivities of the day, Smith Auto Family played a vital role in making the day possible. “Community is at the center of everything we do,” said Nicole Campbell of Smith Auto Family. “Being part of an event that brings people together and gives back to local organizations is exactly what small-town life is all about. We’re proud to support something that celebrates the people and places that make Hockley County home.”

The Hockley County Community Parade aims to become an annual event celebrating unity, creativity, and generosity; values that continue to define Levelland and surrounding communities.
