Annual Christmas on the Square kicks off Thursday

Levelland Main Street, the Marigolds of Levelland, and South Plains College (SPC) have partnered annually to bring community members the Levelland Festival of Lights & Christmas on the Square, November 30.

The evening begins on the West facing lawn of the Levelland SPC Campus, as Dr. Satterwhite, President of SPC and Cailee Miller, Miss Caprock, join forces to bring the campus to life with the annual tree lighting event. The tree lighting will begin at 6 p.m

Following the tree lighting, the Christmas Parade will begin at roughly 6:15 p.m. The parade will begin by making its way through campus, turning North on College Ave. and heading down the road to Houston Street with Santa in the lead.

Community members are encouraged to stop by the gazebo located on the Hockley County Courthouse lawn and get a free ticket from The Levelland Marigolds to see Santa. When the ticket color lights up, it’s that individuals turn to get in line.

Meanwhile, the LISD choirs will be performing. There will be food trucks, hot cocoa, student activity booths, a soft fun kooshy snowball fight and a performance by The Grinch. Give aways, food options, bounce houses and lots of games also be available for the community.

Every float is also allowed to setup a vendor booth if they choose to as well. For this year, the theme is “West Texas Christmas: Festival of Light’s Christmas on the Square.” A registration form will need to filled out for parade entries. Deadline for entries are November 29, at 5 p.m.

During the parade, judges will be located at the Wallace Theatre and floats will need to stop within that area for at least one minute to allow for judging.

All entries must be lighted or glow-in-the-dark.

Additional rules are as follows: No live Santa Claus will be allowed on any floats as Santa will be already greeting children at the gazebo downtown.

All entries must be lighted or glow-in-the-dark. Parade floats will follow a route starting at SPC. To enter a float in the parade, a entry form will be needed to be filled out. On the day of the event, bring the float to SPC lining up behind the last float on Denver Ave. Floats will need to enter the lineup from Hickory Street.

No walking traffic or bike riders will be permitted until the parade hits Houston and Avenue F.

All vehicles will need to dim their lights and no headlights will be allowed on.

Float entries will not be allowed to throw anything, but treats will be allowed to be given away in the downtown area.

Streets will be closed off starting at 5 p.m. If anyone wishes to setup their booth before the parade starts, they can do so. All floats will exit by continuing down Avenue H. Once outside the barricade, the floats can feel free to depart the parade route.

There is no fee to have a booth but the booth must have a float in the parade. Booths may sell or give away items at their booth, but are responsible for anything and everything necessary in order to do so.
