Levelland ISD will be hosting a tour of the Intermediate building followed by a public meeting and Q and A session, June 5.
An open house event and campus tour of the building is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. A presentation and Q and A session will begin at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room.
Levelland ISD issued a press release March 27, explaining the district would be moving away from the building.
Beginning with the upcoming school year 2023-2024, Levelland Intermediate School will be closed.
“In an effort to make the best decision for our students, staff, and community needs a number of factors were considered in making this decision. Student needs are and always will be a priority at Levelland ISD,” stated the release.
Looking at enrollment, a continued decline over the past several years, and a predicted decline in the future also played a role in the decision.
With a building built in 1938 it has been deemed unsuitable given the numerous costly repairs.
The repairs include plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, roofing, ADA Compliance, etc.
The current estimated cost of these repairs is in excess of $2.1 Million. Based on those factors, the district believes the building has become unrealistic to continue to operate the facility.
